Most directories will not tell you where their listings came from. We will, partly because the licenses require it and partly because it is the honest answer to a fair question.
The sources
Business records come from the Overture Maps Foundation, an open data project backed by Amazon, Meta, Microsoft and TomTom. Its places data includes records contributed from Foursquare Open Source Places. We do not scrape Yellow Pages, Yelp, Google or any other directory.

Version 2.0. Records sourced from Foursquare Open Source Places are © Foursquare Labs, Inc. and are
used under the Apache License, Version 2.0, available at apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0.
This directory has modified the original data. We filtered it to United States business records, removed records without a usable name or address, removed records marked as closed, reorganized the category structure, and reformatted the remainder for publication. Neither Overture nor Foursquare endorses this directory or has any involvement in it.
What we changed
- Filtered to United States records only
- Removed anything without a business name, street address, city and state
- Removed records with no phone, website or email
- Removed records flagged as permanently closed
- Excluded categories that are not businesses people search a directory for
- Ordered listings by how complete and confident each record is
Why some listings are wrong
Open place data is a snapshot, and businesses move, change numbers, rebrand and close. That gap is exactly why claiming a listing is free: the person who runs the business is the only reliable source of truth about it. Claim your listing to fix it, or ask us to remove it.
